Thank you for the fave. :)

wazzap dawg im just passing by but i saw this I am the light by Johndowson and artist here says that was your character and he really her so wanted to paint it but i checked your gallery and didnt find i really wanna see how you draw her <3 well you dont have to ofc anyways love your work keep it up  <3
This is a real blast from the past lol, still looks amazing though. I did draw this character way back like 10 years ago, but I did a heavy purge of all my old work from DA in  2012 I think and ended up getting rid of the drawing that inspired that way better piece so unfortunately its lost to the internet and collecting dust in some must binder in my attic.

Sorry, but I am happy you took a look through my stuff and didn't hate it :)
Hello! A few months ago you gave me an in-depth critique of one of my works. You didn't say a single nice thing about it :XD: but it spurred me to finally take a gander at some art books I bought but never bothered looking at. I realized I was drawing mostly from memory, which caused me to use bad drawing habits I adopted since childhood. It was hard shaking them, but drawing from observation is far better for me.

Over the last few months, I think I've improved. I still have a long way to go of course, as I still make obvious errors on every piece, but I like the way I'm headed. So I just wanted to say thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Your critiques helped more than just me, I'm sure of it. :)
Honestly, this is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me on DA. I always wonder if those critiques ever actually help or if I am being too harsh with them. I feel like it's important to be that brutally honest because the art world is meaner than I can ever be, and if it helps in the long run, it's well worth it. That being said, I am happy you are actively looking for ways to improve and take criticism. It's super hard to do and shows that you are serious about doing what you love and having that spark means you will go far eventually. I am no expert and still have tons to improve on, and it took people telling me just how flawed my art was and me finally accepting that to actually improve.

Wed all have habits that are hard to shake off, and if you are only used to drawing from your head and never using reference of doing life drawings, it's really, really hard to make yourself get accustomed to that. Trust me I know. I scrubbed my gallery of drawings that had way more issues than the one I critiqued for you. I checked out your gallery and your recent work, and yes, you have other things to improve upon, but that being said, compared to a few months ago, you have gotten a lot better. Much better anatomy, better use of color, better lighting, and most evident to me, much better, more interesting compositions. You should really be proud of yourself for growing so much.I am so glad I could help you. I don't know what your end goal is with art, but keep pushing yourself like you have been doing and you will achieve great things.
My end goal, huh? I suppose it's to get to a point where almost no concept will be too daunting for me to handle. To have my imagination run on paper with as little compromise as possible, and have any flaws to be well-hidden and minor. I'd love to do low angle and night-time drawings for instance, though it's going to take a ton of persistence to even get them looking acceptable by my own standards. This broad end goal might take a lifetime to reach, assuming I even reach it. But that may be fine, I've always at least enjoyed the process of drawing.

You know more than you let on! It takes quite a bit of knowledge to do such consistently thorough critiques. Nothing I've seen you say was unwarranted. You generally criticize the art, not the artist. Obviously critiques can still hurt an artist's pride, but they're far more useful than the non-specific "good jobs!" that are everywhere on the site (not saying I don't still appreciate those comments, though).

Anyways, I suppose that's all I had to say. Take care, and keep doing what you're doing :)
